Zoning Commission Meeting

At next month’s Planning Commission agenda, the city of Kalamazoo will hold a public hearing regarding a rezoning request for 700 S Howard Street. (700 S Howard is the property at the northeast edge of the neighborhood that was developed several years ago as student housing.)

The zoning request is to change this property’s classification from commercial to residential– a residential classification that matches what the site is currently developed as. There is not a change of use or a new project, but it is a zoning map change. Having zoning that does not match the use/development means it is nonconforming, which can lead to issues with refinancing, insurance, and access to permits for repairs/renovations.

The meeting is August 1, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers, second floor of City Hall, 241 W. South Street. If you have any questions regarding the request, please contact the Community Planning and Economic Development Department at 269-337-8044 or you may submit written comments to the office prior to the meeting.
